This is a dance carol known in Welsh as Nos Galan (New Year's Eve). It appeared in Musical and Poetical Relicks of the Welsh Bards, 1784 by Edward Jones. The text appeared in The Franklin Square Song Collection selected by J. P. McCracken in 1881. It is included in The New Oxford Book of Carols (#164). This tune plays nicely on the banjo in G tuning and goes well in a medley with Angels We Have Heard on High and Good King Wenceslas which are in this section.
