"The Dog's Meeting", also known as "The Doggie's Meeting",
"The Dog's Convention" or "The Dogs They Had a Party" is a
scatological tall tale. It is a parody on the hymn tune
"The Church's One Foundation", known as "Aurelia", which
was composed by S. J. Stone in 1866.
It is sometimes sung to the Swedish folk tune "Haf trones lampa färdig" which is often used for the hymn "Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers" written by Laurentius Laurenti in 1700. It is known in Australia, Great Britain and the United States. It was first published in 1928 in an under-the-counter book Poems, Ballads and Parodies. It was also printed in Randolph and Legman's Roll Me in Your Arms: "Unprintable" Ozark Folksongs and Folklore (1992), Meredith and Anderson's Folk Songs of Australia (1968) and Morgan's Why Was He Born So Beautiful and Other Rugby Songs (1967, 1985). |
