This tune is from Shetland, island of Unst,<br> where it probably dates from the 18th century.<br> Patrick Shuldham-Shaw collected the tune from<br> John Stickle (1875-1957) of Unst, whose ancestor<br> Friedemann Stickle was famous as a fiddler in the<br> eighteenth and early 19th century. Although some<br> think Stickle composed it, Pat Shuldham-Shaw thought<br> it might have been older. Friedemann was paid to play<br> this tune every year on Christmas morning in the hall<br> of his laird, the Laird of Muness.<br> This is another seasonal Shetland fiddle tune - this being played on<br> Christmas Day and "Da Day Dawn" on New Year's.<br> It was recorded by Alasdair Fraser and The Boys of the Lough.<br> I sometimes play this as a medley with<br> The Mason's Apron, also in this section.<br>
