"Doon the Brae", also known as "Down the Hill", "The Clans", "Down the Brae", "March of the Clans", "The Old Crossroad" or "Rocks of Brae" is a Scottish (originally) and Irish march in 4/4 time and A Minor (Songer) or E Minor. The parts are played AA'BB' or AA'B. "Doon the Brae" ('down the hillside') is perhaps more commonly played in the key of E Minor, although it appears in Martin Mulvihill's 1986 collection ("The Old Crossroads") in A minor. It is sometimes heard as the accompanying melody for the contra dance "The Grand March" and in New England it has additionally been employed for the contra dance "British Sorrow". In Ireland it appears under the alternate titles "The Old Crossroads" or "The Clans / March of the Clans". It was printed in Songer's Portland Collection (1997). It was recorded by Rodney Miller on New England Chestnuts 2 (1981) (Appears as "Rocks of Brae"), Fennig's All Stars on Saturday Night in the Provinces (1975) and Liverpool Ceili Band on Champions Twice (1965) (Appears as "The Clans").
