"Lasses trust in Providence" is a Shetland and Scottish reel in D Major. The parts are played AABB (Brody, Phillips) or AA'BB' (Martin & Hughes). This older reel was widely known in the Shetland Islands and received additional popularity through the playing of the influential Shetland Fiddle Band in the mid-20th century. The phrase "Lasses trust in Providence" was evidently a once-common saying. It was printed in Anderson's Haand Me Doon da Fiddle (1979), Brody's Fiddler's Fakebook (1983), Martin & Hughes' Ho-ro-gheallaidh (1990) and Phillips' Fiddlecase Tunebook: British Isles (1989). It was recorded by Abby Newton on Crossing to Scotland (1997), Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas on Fire and Grace (2004), Tom Anderson and Aly Bain on The Silver Bow and Tom Anderson alone.
