"Lord MacDonald", also known as "The Braes of Mar", "Johnny Will You Marry Me",<br> "Johnny Won't You Marry Me", "Sir Alex MacDonald's Reel" is a Scottish<br> strathspey or reel in D Major. The parts are played AB (Surenne) or<br> AABBCCDD (Athole, Gow, Skye).<br> Gow called it "Old Reel"(1806).<br> Surenne (1851) gives the alternate title "O Mither, Ont Bodie but the Duddy<br> Blacksmith" and says the version is an "old set".<br> It was printed in Carlin's The Gow Collection (1986),<br> Gow's Complete Repository, Part 3 (1806) (appears as "Loard McDonald"),<br> Kerr's Merry Melodies, vol. 4 (appears as "Lord MacDonald 'Old' Strathspey"),<br> MacDonald's The Skye Collection (1887),<br> Stewart-Robertson's The Athole Collection (1884) and<br> Surenne's Dance Music of Scotland (1852).<br> It was recorded by Donny LeBlanc on Rosining Up the Bow (1993).<br>
