"March of Lord McDonald's Highlanders", also known as "McDonald's March" is a Scottish march
in 4/4 time and D Major. The parts are played AABB.
I found this while I was looking for the "McDonald's March" played on Music in the Great Hall by Ensemble Galilei which is apparently hard to find but the search lead me to this. I can't find any indication of which Lord McDonald this comes from. Clan McDonald goes back to the 11th or 12th centuries and divided into many branches through the years. In the 14th and 15th centuries the chief of Clann Donald was titled Lord of the Isles and ruled the Inner Hebrides islands from the Isle of Islay. Some coastal areas of the Sottish highlands were also ruled by the Lords of the Isles. In the 18th century the McDonald's fought with the Jacobites in both the 1714 and 1745 uprisings. It was printed in Aird's Sixth and Last Volume of Scotch, English, Irish and Foreign Airs (1803). |
