"Mary Young and Fair" (in Gaelic "Mairi bhàn òg") also known as "Fair Young Mary" is a Scottish slow air in 6/8 time and A Minor. The parts are played AAB. The air is traditional, one of the many variants of "Gilderoy" which was used by the poet Duncan Ban MacIntyre for a song in honor of his wife. The tune is popular both as a fiddle and pipe solo and many versions exist, including one in the Patrick McDonald Collection (1784). It was printed in Fraser's The Airs and Melodies Peculiar to the Highlands of Scotland and the Isles (1874), Kerr's Merry Melodies, vol. 1, Martin's Traditional Scottish Fiddling (2002) and Neil's The Scots Fiddle (1991). It was recorded by Abby Newton on Castles, Kirks and Caves (2001), Capercaillie on Cascade and Evergreen on The Unseen Dance.
