"Da New Rigged Ship" is a Shetland reel in A Dorian ('A' and 'C' parts) and
A Major or Mixolydian ('B' part). The parts are played AABBCC.
There is sometimes confusion of titles between the "Full Rigged" tunes and
the similarly-titled "New Rigged" tunes. The tune called "The Full Rigged
Ship" is generally applied to the jig ("Da Full Rigged Ship") and is often
played by Scots fiddlers in a medley with the similarly titled "Da New Rigged
Ship". However, the reel tune is usually played under the title "Da New
Rigged Ship". There is also a jig version.
It was printed in Bain's 50 Fiddle Solos (1989) and
Martin & Hughesin Ho-ro-gheallaidh: Sessions Tunes for Scottish Fiddlers
(1990).
It was recorded by Cape Cod Fiddlers on Concert Collection II (1999),
Abby Newton on Crossing to Scotland (1997) and
Frank Ferrel on Yankee Dreams: Wicked Good Fiddling from New England (1991).
