"Orange and Blue Schottische", also known as "Blue Bonnets Hornpipe", "The Blue Ribbon",<br> "Brochan Lom" ("Thin Porridge"), "The Frolic", "Katy Jones", "Kitty Jones",<br> "The Orange & Blue Highland" and "Orange and Blue Highland Fling" is a Scottish,<br> Shetland, or English Highland Schottische or Strathspey or Irish fling in A Major<br> (Skinner), D Major (Kennedy, Kerr, Raven, Sweet), C Major (Gow, Hardie, Hunter,<br> Lowe) or A Major (Milne). The parts are played AB (Hardie, Kerr, Milne, Skinner,<br> Sweet) or AA'BB' (Kennedy, Raven).<br> Known throughout the Shetlands as well as Scotland both as the Highland<br> Fling/Schottische "Orange and Blue" and "Brochan Lom", the latter also as<br> puirt a beul (mouth music).<br> This is a schottische version of the jig setting of "Orange and Blue".<br> It has been suggested that the title refers to the traditional colors of the Ulster<br> Protestants (Orangemen) and Scotsmen (Blue), the traditional color of the Liberal<br> Party (orange) and Conservatives (blue), or the Orange and True Blue Masonic Lodge.<br> It was printed in Gow's Complete Repository, Part 4 (1817),<br> Hardie's Caledonian Companion (1986),<br> Hunter's The Fiddle Music of Scotland (1988),<br> Kennedy's Fiddlers Tune-Book, vol. 2 (1954),<br> Kerr's Merry Melodies, vol. 1 (c. 1880’s),<br> Lowe's Collection of Reels, Strathspeys and Jigs, book 4 (1844–1845),<br> Milne's Middleton’s Selection of Strathspeys, Reels &c. for the Violin (1870),<br> Moffat's Dance Music of the North (1908),<br> Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984),<br> Skinner's The Scottish Violinist (1900) and<br> Sweet's Fifer's Delight (1964/1981).<br>
