"Tramps And Hawkers", also known as "Come all ye Tramps and Hawkers",
"Beltane Time" and "Tribute To Newfoundland" is a Scottish air in 3/4 time and C major.
The tune is used for the sea song "Paddy West". Ewan MacColl used it for "England’s Motorway" and Bob Dylan used it for "I Pity the Poor Immigrant". It is #1874 Roud Folksong Index. It was recorded by the Battlefield Band, Old Blind Dogs, Liz Giddings, Roger Digby and Bob Davenport and others. In his notes to the record Come All Ye Tramps and Hawkers, Hamish Henderson says that the song "is reputed to have been composed by ‘Besom Jimmy’, a much travelled Angus-born hawker" of the 19th century. |
