"The Tulip" is a Scottish march. It was composed by James Oswald and printed in his
Airs for the Spring (1747). Several song and dance tunes are descended from this tune,
including the Irish revolutionary song
"Wearing of the Green"
and the morris dance
air
"Balance a Straw".
Many sources reference this as an ancestor of both "Wearing of the Green" and "Balance a Straw" but there is very little direct information available. It has been recorded by Adderbury Morris Men on Sing and Play the Music of the Adderbury Tradition. |
