"Balance the Straw" is an English morris dance tune in 6/8 time and D Major (Bacon) or
G Major (Mallinson). The parts are played AABA (Bacon) or AABB (Mallinson).
It is from the Field Town (Leafield) area of England's Cotswolds. Bacon (1974) says this tune
is a "new version of 'Balance the Straw' which has appeared in post-war years, and has
become an accepted and effective part of the morris man's repertoire. The tune is a
composed or at least a modified one".
It is a 6/8 version of the A and B parts of "Balance a Straw".
It was printed in Bacon's The Morris Ring (1974) and
Mallinson's Mally's Cotswold Morris Book, vol. 1 (1988).
