"The Princess Royal" is an English morris dance in G minor and 2/2 time (A and B parts) and<br> 2/4 and 4/4 time (C part). The parts are played AA BC BC B.<br> The melody is very similar to "The Princess Royal" attributed to<br> Turlough O'Carolan by collector Edward Bunting. His tune is also known as "Miss MacDermott".<br> It was used by Ralph Vaughan Williams for the "Sea Songs" movement of his English Folk Song<br> Suite. The inclusion in the "Sea Songs" movement possibly meant that he confused it with<br> a song "The Bold Princess Royal" which is a ballad about a merchant ship encountering a<br> pirate ship.<br> This version comes from the village of Bampton which is southwest of Witney in Oxfordshire.<br>
