"The Connaughtman's Rambles", in Gaelic "Bean Ag Baint Duileasc", also known as "The Connacht Man’s
Rambles", "The Connaught Man’s Ramble(s)", "Connaughtman’s", "The Duck From Drummock",
"Gathering Dilisk" or "Mooney’s" is an Irish jig in 6/8 time in B minor.
Connaught was one of the five old provinces of Ireland (along with Ulster, Leinster, Meath and
Munster), named for the ancient tribe who lived there, the Connachta.
The title of this tune appears in a list of tunes brought by Philip Goodman, a professional and
traditional piper in Farney, Louth, to the Feis Ceoil in Belfast in 1898.
It was printed in O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903), O'Neill's Dance Music of
Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907), O'Neill (Krassen) (1976),
the Roche Collection (1891), Ryan’s Mammoth Collection (1883) and Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes (1940).
It has been recorded by Natalie MacMaster, Sean Keane, Kevin Burke, Boys Of The Lough, Sláinte,
Seamus Ennis and many others.
