"The Eight and Forty Sisters" (in Gaelic Ochtar Deirfiúr is Daichead) is an Irish
reel in E Dorian (Breathnach, Roche) or E Minor (Darley & McCall). The parts are
played: one part (Darley & McCall), AB (Breathnach) or AAB (Roche). The ‘B’ part of
Darley & McCall’s version of the tune is shared with "Dublin Lasses".
The melody, particularly in the B part, is similar to "The Musical Priest".
Breathnach’s has a different second part.
This version is from Bancalari.
It was printed in Breathnach's CRÉ II (1976),
Darley & McCall's Darley & McCall Collection of Traditional Irish Music (1914),
Roche Collection (1982) and
Bancalari's Celtic Encyclopedia (1999).
