"The Fair Maidens", also known as "Rival Hornpipe" or "Turner's Hornpipe" is an Irish hornpipe in G Major. The parts are played AABB. The hornpipe may or may not actually have an Irish provenance. It was printed in Boston music volumes of the 19th century as "Rival Hornpipe" in Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883) and as "Turner's Hornpipe" in the Boston Collection of Instrumental Music (1850). It was also printed in Krassen's O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1976), O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903), Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907) and O'Neill's Irish Music (1915).
