"Farrell O'Gara's Favorite Reel", also known as "Last Night in Leadville", "Last
Night's Fun", "The Lasses" (Cape Breton), "Macroom Lasses", "Old Joe Sife's", "Stick
it in the Ashes" or "Farrell O'Gara Schottische" is an Irish reel or schottische
in A Major. The parts are played AABB.
This is not the
"Farrell O'Gara"
reel famously recorded by Sligo fiddler Michael Coleman (1891-1945)
in 1927 in New York, but rather the first tune in his "Killarney Wonder" set
(recorded 1924), where it is called "Farrell O'Gara Schottische".
The melody has currency among Cape Breton fiddlers under several titles.
It appears in Kerr's Merry Melodies, vol. 2 (c. 1880's), as "Last Night's Fun".
It was printed in Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes (1940),
Miller & Perron's Irish Traditional Fiddle Music (2006) and
Ryan's Mammoth Collection (1883).
It was recorded by Kevin Burke on Sweeney's Dream (1977).
