"Hawke's Hornpipe", in Gaelic "Cornphiope Ui Eachaigh" or "Crannciuil {Ui} Sea{l}baig",
also known as "Hawk's Hornpipe" is an Irish hornpipe in A Dorian. The parts are played AABB
(Breathnach, Goodman, O'Neill/Krassen) or AA'BB' (O'Neill/1850 & 1001).
The tune appears in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection (vol. 3) of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon James Goodman as “Hawkes Hornpipe”. It seems to be related to "Molly MacAlpin"). in the O'Carolan section. It was printed in Breathnach's CRÉ 2 (1976), Krassen's O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1976), O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903), O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907). |
