"The Humors of Whiskey", also known as "The Crossroads Frolic", "Deel of the Dance", "Dever the Dancer", "Dillon's Fancy", "Humors of Derry", "The Peeler's Return" or "The Policeman's Return" is an Irish slip jig in E Minor (Sullivan), E Minor ('A' part) & D Mixolydian ('B' part) (Breathnach), B Minor ('A' part) & D Major ('B' part) (Feldman & O'Doherty, Taylor). The parts are played AB (Breathnach, Taylor), ABB (Feldman & O'Doherty) or AABB (Sullivan). The tune is circular and ends on the seventh note of the scale to repeat. I have added a final measure to end on the tonic. It is a popular slip jig in County Donegal, although there are different versions. This is the most often played version. There are three different tunes called "The Humors of Whiskey": a song, a double jig and this one, a slip jig in 9/8 time and B minor. The Gaelic title is "Sugra na Uisge-Beata". It was printed in Breathnach's CRÉ II (1976), Feldman & O'Doherty's The Northern Fiddler (1979), Sullivan's Session Tunes and Taylor's Crossroads Dance (1992). It was recorded by Grey Larsen, Altan, Oisin, Cherish the Ladies, The Tannahill Weavers, The Chieftains and others.
