"Katie's Fancy" (in Gaelic Roga Caitilin), also known as "The Humors of Cork" is an
Irish double jig in 6/8 time and G Major. The parts are played AABBCC.
It is similar to "The Boys of Tralee" although that tune does not have a C part.
Captain Francis O'Neill acquired this tune from Mr. Gillan, originally from County
Longford but living in Chicago. Mr. Gillan acquired the tune from Mr. Peter Kennedy
in County Leitrim. O'Neill made sure the tune was distributed to the Chicago Irish
musical community, where it became quite popular.
O'Neill printed a version of the tune in his Waifs and Strays of Gaelic Melody (1923)
under the title "The Humors of Cork".
It was also printed in
Banalari's Celtic Encyclopedia (1999),
O'Neill's O'Neill's Irish Music (1915),
O'Neill (Krassen) (1976),
O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903) and
O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907).
