"The Leitrim Thrush", in Gaelic "Smolac Liat-Druim/Droma", also known as "Ballinasloe Fair" is an Irish reel in A Minor ('A' part) & C Major ('B' part). The parts are played AB (O'Neill/1850 & 1001) or AABB' (O'Neill/Krassen). O'Neill also printed a variant of the reel under the title "Ballinasloe Fair".
There are villages named Leitrim in County Leitrim (north west in the Irish Republic) and in County Down (Ulster). Seamus Ennis popularized the tune, especially among pipers.
It was printed in Krassen's O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1976), O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903) and Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907).
It was recorded by The Old Hat Dance Band on The Old Hat Dance Band (1992), Frankie Gavin on Up and Away (1983), Seamus Ennis on Strains On Winds Once Blown - Volume 1: Pure Drop (1973) and Néil Mulligan on The Leitrim Thrush (1997).
