"The Lodge Road", in Gaelic "Botar na Congbail" or "Botar Tig an Geata" is an Irish set dance in 2/4 time in D Major. The parts are played AABB (Callaghan, Mulvihill, O'Neill) or AABB' (Roche). Roche states that his version is "From O'Neill, slightly altered". As with most set dances, the parts are unequal; the 1st strain has the usual 8 measures, while the 2nd has 12 measures. The tune has lately become popular in English sessions. The first strain is shared with "Sir Robert Bruce's Hornpipe" found in the large mid-19th century music manuscript collection of County Cork cleric and uilleann piper Canon James Goodman. It was printed in Callaghan's Hardcore English (2007), Cotter's Traditional Irish Tin Whistle Tutor (1989), Mulvihill's 1st Collection (1986), O'Neill (Krassen) (1976) O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903), O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907) and Roche's Collection of Traditional Irish Music, vol. 3 (1927). It was recorded by The English Country Blues Band on Home and Deranged (1983) and on Stepping Up (2004).
