"The Maid with the Bonny Brown Hair", in Gaelic "An Crubog A Dimigh Go Toraigh" or "Mo Chro Bheag Ag Bun Chnoc An Tui", also known as "The Lass with the Bonny Brown Hair" is an Irish air in D major.
This slow air is similar to "The Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow".
Cathal McConnell heard and noted the tune of this song some years ago but he can’t remember where. Some time later he found the words in Colm O’Lochlainn’s Irish Street Ballads (1935).
Boys of the Lough sang it as "The Lass with the Bonny Brown Hair" in 1973 on their Second Album in 1999 and as "The Maid with the Bonny Brown Hair" on their album The West of Ireland.
It was also recorded by Maggie Boyle and Steve Tilston on All Under the Sun (1996).
It was printed in O’Lochlainn’s Irish Street Ballads (1935).
It is in the Roud Folksong Index as #3032.
