"The Maids of Castlebar" (in Gaelic Gearrchailiú Chaisleán an Bharraigh) also known as<br> “Girls of Castlebar” is an Irish reel in D Major. The parts are played AB (Breathnach) or<br> AABB (Flaherty).<br> “The Maids of Castlebar” was recorded by Sligo fiddler Paddy Killoran in New York in the<br> late 1930’s. This reel is not to be confused with O’Neill’s air “Maid of Castlebar”.<br> Related tunes are “The Barmaid”, “The Green Mountain”, “Indy’s Favorite”, “Judy’s Reel” and<br> “The Maid Behind the Bar”. In fact, the ‘Castlebar’ title may be a corruption of “The Maid<br> Behind the Bar” or vice versa.<br> It was printed in Breathnach's CRÉ I (1963), Flaherty's Trip to Sligo (1990), Lyth's<br> Bowing Styles in Irish Fiddle Playing, vol. 1 (1981),<br> Mallinson's 100 Evergreen Irish Session Tunes (1997), Cobb's Cobb's Music of Ireland website<br> (http://cobb.ece.wisc.edu/irish/Tunebook.html) and others.<br> It was recorded by Mick Moloney with Eugene O'Donnell,<br> Frankie Gavin on Frankie Goes to Town (1989),<br> Brian Rooney on Leitrim to London (2002),<br> Craob Rua on The More that’s Said the Less the Better (1992),<br> Paddy Killoran on From Ballymote to Brooklyn (2002),<br> Tommy Peoples on Recorded at Fiddler's Hearth (2004) and<br> Natalie MacMaster on My Roots are Showing (2000). <br>
