"The Men From Ulster" in Gaelic "Na Fir Ua Uladh" also known as "Norfolk Hornpipe"<br> is an Irish hornpipe in G Major. The parts are played AABB.<br> The tune is the same as "Norfolk Hornpipe" printed in Ryan's Mammoth Collection<br> (c. 1883) and credited to W.H. Whiddon. A "W.H. Whiddon from Boston" is recorded<br> according to Williamson's History of the City of Belfast, in the State of Maine<br> (1913) as having participated in band concerts in Belfast, Maine, in 1893.<br> The "Men from Ulster" title is perhaps Francis O'Neill's re-titling of the tune.<br> W.H. Whiddon is also thought to have been the composer of "Whiddon's Hornpipe",<br> found in Kerr's Merry Melodies and in Thomas Craig's Empire Violin Collection of<br> Hornpipes (1898) and "Whiddon's Favorite" and other tunes in Ryan's Mammoth<br> Collection (1883). The second strain of "Whiddon's Hornpipe" is similar to the<br> first strain of this tune. This part is a "floater" and also appears in<br> O'Neill's<br> "Wily Old Bachelor"<br> and "The Bashful Bachelor".<br> It was printed in O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903) and<br> Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes (1940) (as "Norfolk Hornpipe").<br>
