"Miller's Maggot" is an Irish single jig in 6/8 time and E minor.
The word 'maggot' refers to a unit of liquid measure, a dram, although in archaic use (e.g. Playford) a 'maggot' meant a slight or small tune, a plaything, a whim; from the Italian maggioletta, or plaything. I play this tune in medleys with: "My Darling Asleep", "Money in Both Pockets" both in this section. |
