"The Mountains of Kerry", in Gaelic "Sleibte {Na} Ciarraige", also known in the US as "Douglas's Favorite Hornpipe", "Doug's Favorite", The Mountain Hornpipe" or "Woody's Hornpipe" is an Irish hornpipe in cut time and G Major. The parts are played AABB.
County Kerry has the highest mountains in Ireland. Thirteen peaks are classified by the Scottish Mountaineering Club as Furths i.e. mountains over 3,000 feet in the British Isles outside Scotland that are regarded as separate mountains. Ten of these are located in Macgillycuddy's Reeks in County Kerry. The highest mountain is Carrauntoohil, in Gaelic Corrán Tuathail, meaning "Tuathal's sickle") which is 3,407 feet 6 inches high.
This Irish tune is probably the ancestral root of the American hornpipe "The Mountain Hornpipe".
The tune was printed in Krassen's O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1976), O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903) and O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907).
