"The Nine Points of Knavery" is an Irish reel in A Dorian. The parts are played AAB. The only appearance of this tune is in the Forde Collection, a portion of which was published by P.W. Joyce. William Forde (c. 1759-1850) was a distinguished musician from County Cork, who collected primarily in Munster, but also from trips made to Counties Leitrim, Sligo, Galway, Roscommon and Mayo. Forde collected "Nine Points of Knavery" from James Blair, who was at the time a stipendiary magistrate in Ballinamore, County Leitrim, although he was originally from County Armagh. The reel appears to be a distanced member of the "The Queen of May" and "The Tap Room" tune family. The C part given here is the B part transposed down an octave. It was printed in Joyce's Old Irish Folk Music and Songs (1909). It was recorded by The McNamara Family on Leitrim's Hidden Treasures (1999).
