"The Peeler's Cap", "The Peeler's Jacket", "Peeler's Reel/Policeman's Reel" and other titles.
An Irish reel, with an American title, probably inspired by the numbers of Irish laborers who
made up a large part of the workforce in the building of America's railway system in the
19th century.
It has been printed in Cole's 1000 Fiddle Tunes and O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903) (as "The Merry Blacksmith") and O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907). I probably learned it from Cole's. |
