"The Peacock's Feather", in Gaelic "Cleite na Péacóige" is an Irish hornpipe in D Major.
The parts are played AA'BB (Breathnach), AA’BB’ (Black, Harker/Rafferty).
Black identifies this as an East Galway tune. However, Caoimhin Mac Aoidh attributes it to
Joe Holmes of County Antrim, a singer and fiddler who brought the tune to Galway in the early
1970’s. It seems that Holmes and a young Len Graham would travel to stay with friends, the
Keanes of Caherlistrane and introduced the tune on one of his visits.
It was printed Black's Music’s the Very Best Thing (1996), Breathnach's CRÉ III (1985),
Harker's 300 Tunes from Mike Rafferty (2005).
It was recorded by Máire Ní Chathasaigh & Chris Newman on The Living Wood, Frankie Gavin on
Traditional Music of Ireland (1977), Frankie Gavin & Alex Finn (1977), Mick Moloney on Strings
Attached and others.
