"The Poet Carney" is an Irish reel in D Major. The parts are played AABB.
The melody was composed by Derry fiddler and stepdancer Eugene O’Donnell, who spent
many years in Philadelphia, Pa., arriving in 1957. He returned to Derry to live in
1995.
"The Poet Carney" was named for a friend.
It was printed in Alewine's Maid that Cut Off the Chicken’s Lips (1987).
It was recorded by Máire O'Keeffe on Cóisir/House Party (1994) and
Mick Moloney and Eugene O'Donnell on "Mick Moloney with Eugene O'Donnell" (1978).
