"The Rolling Waves", also known as "The Rolling Waves", "Beattie's Frolics",
"The Humors of Trim" is an Irish, jig in 6/8 time and D Major. The parts are played AABB.
The "Rolling Wave" title for the jig appears to have been Willie Clancy’s, although this
is now the most popular name for it. O’Neill gives it as "The Humors of Trim".
It was printed in Mitchell's Dance Music of Willie Clancy (1993), Krassen's O'Neill's Music of Ireland (1976), O'Neill's Music of Ireland: 1850 Melodies (1903) (as "The Humors of Trim"), O'Neill's Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907) (as "The Humors of Trim"), Vallely's Learn to Play the Tin Whistle with the Armagh Pipers Club, vol. 3 (1973). It was recorded by Willie Clancy on The Pipering of Willie Clancy, vol. 1 (1973), Kevin Crawford on In Good Company (2001), The Chieftains on Chieftains 8 (appears in the “Sea Image” set). |
