"The Sport of the Chase", in Gaelic "Ceol na seilge", also known as
"Joys of the Chase" or "New Claret" is an Irish slip jig in 9/8 time and G Major.
The parts are played AABB (Phillips) or AAB (Kennedy, Roche).
"Sport of the Chase" is an Irish variant of mid-18th century Scottish fiddler,
composer and dancing master David Young's tune "New Claret".
It was printed in Bulmer & Sharpley's Music from Ireland, vol. 1 (1974),
Kennedy's Fiddler’s Tune-Book: Slip Jigs and Waltzes (1999),
Phillips' Fiddlecase Tune Book (1989),
Roche's Collection of Traditional Irish Music, vol. 3 (1927).
It was recorded by Seán Ryan on Cliaraí Ceoil - Minstrel’s Fancy (1994),
Ceoltoiri on Silver Apples Of The Moon (1992),
Irish Ceili Band on 50 Irish & Celtic Favorites (2017),
Fairport Convention on Full House (1970) and others.
