"Swallowtail Jig" is a double jig known in Irish, English, Canadian and American traditions. It is also known as "The Custom House", "The Dancing Master", "Drioball na Fáinleoige", "From The New Country", "The Swallow’s Tail", "The Swallow’s Nest" and other names.
The title (in conjunction with the alternate title in O’Neill’s, “The Dancing Master”) may possibly refer to the type of coat typically worn the by early 19th century dancing master.
It has been printed in both O'Neill's Music of Ireland:1850 Melodies (1903) and Dance Music of Ireland: 1001 Gems (1907).
It has been recorded by The Dubliners, Jean Carignan, Gaelic Storm and others.
