"The Barrowburn Reel ", also known as "Barrow Burn Reel" or "Barrowburn" is a Scottish
reel in D Major. It is a modern composition by fiddler, bandleader and composer
Addie Harper of Wick, Scotland. 'Burn' is a Scots word for stream.
This is often mistaken for a traditional tune instead of a modern composition.
It was printed in Martin's Ceol na Fidhle, vol. 3 (1988), Miller's Fiddler's Throne (2004) and
Taylor's Where's the Crack? (1989).
It was recorded by Cape Cod Fiddlers on Concert Collection II (1999), Alasdair Fraser &
Natalie Haas on Fire and Grace (2004), Aly Bain & Phil Cunningham on The Pearl (1994),
Sharon Shannon on The Best of Sharon Shannon: Spellbound (1999). Addie Harper on Her
Caithness Home (2000) and George Wilson on Royal Circus (2000).
I learned it when someone brought it to our Monday night old-time jam.
