"Farewell Trion" is an American reel from Alabama in G Major (Carlin) or
C Major (Kuntz, Phillips). The parts are played
AABC (Kuntz) or AA'AA'BB'C (Phillips). It is played slower than the usual breakdown tempo.
The primary source for the tune is fiddler Mack Blalock (1914-1987), of Mentone, Alabama,
who had it "from his great-uncle Joe Blaylock (b. 1854) who composed it upon returning
to Alabama after getting laid off from a mill in Trion, Georgia. James Bryan added a
third part to the tune".
It was printed in Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 2 (1995).
It was recorded by Bob Carlin on Banging and Sawing (1985) and
Red Mountain White Trash (now known as Red Mountain Yellowhammers) on Chickens Don't
Roost Too High (1999).
