"The Red Crow" is an Irish reel in A Dorian.
It is a modern composition by fiddler Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of the group Altan.
The name denotes an Irish species known as Cág Cosdearg, meaning "red-legged
Jackdaw". They are also known as choughs and are roughly the same size as a
Jackdaw. Uniquely for an Irish corvid they have bright red legs and feet.
Their most distinctive feature is their long, down-curved red bill.
The tune was recorded by Altan on The Red Crow (1990) and
The Best Of Altan (1997),
Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh on Imeall (2008) and
many others.
