"The Redesdale Hornpipe", also known as "The Underhand Hornpipe" is an English<br> hornpipe in G Major. The parts are played AABB.<br> It was composed by James Hill, originally born in Dundee, Scotland, but who lived<br> much of his life in Gateshead, northern England (near Newcastle).<br> The tune is attributed to him in Köhler’s Violin Repository (1881-1885) under the<br> title "Underhand" and was, like several of Hill’s other compositions, named for a<br> famous race horse. Some of Hill's other compositions were "The Bee's Wing" and<br> "The Flying Dutchman".<br> Underhand won the Northumberland Plate in 1857.<br> It was recorded by Bursledon Village Band on Hardcore English (2007) and<br> The Bursledon Village Band and<br> Gordon Bok on A Tune for November (1970) (the second tune in the guitar<br> transcription titled "Lou's Handy"). <br> It was printed in Bok's Time in the Flying Snow (1977).<br>
