"Snake Hunt", also known as "L'Ville" was written by Fred Campeau who explains that
"I was trying to remember a tune and I couldn't remember it and it came out this way". He was
in a town called Libertyville, so he abbreviated it to "L'ville" (pronounced "ell-ville").
It's a rather odd tune. The A part is pretty standard and is similar to the low part of
"Black Jack Grove"
and a few other tunes. But the B part is really different -- it's 11 bars long,
with lots of half notes, even tied quarter notes that cross the bar line -- and it doesn't repeat.
(Though the first and second strains are similar; the second being kind of a condensation of the first.)
The banjo tablature is by John Letscher.
