"Spring in the Valley" is an American reel in cut or 4/4 time and D Major.<br> The parts are played AABB.<br> It was composed in the 1970's by fiddler Tom McCreesh, who played with<br> the Hotmud (or Hot Mud) Family for several years. The band's leaders, Dave and Suzanne<br> Edmundson, resided in Spring Valley, Ohio and McCreesh's title may be a<br> word-play on the town they lived in.<br> Tom McCreesh also played fiddle with Fennig’s All-Star String Band.<br> Some people play this with the parts reversed, B first and then the A part.<br> The banjo tablature is by John Letscher who picked it up at the Gettysburg jam.<br> It was printed in Stacy Phillips' Traditional American Fiddle Tunes, vol. 1 (1994) and<br> Lamancusa's The Gettysburg Collection of Old-Time Fiddle Tunes (2021).<br> It was recorded by Fennig's All-Star String Band on The Hammered Dulcimer Strikes<br> Again (1977),<br> Michael, McCreesh & Campbell on Dance Like a Wave on the Sea (1978) and<br> New Bad Habits on Shades of Death Creek (2013). <br> Clare Milliner and Walt Koken do a nice double fiddle version on YouTube<br> (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_fl4eHSyPc).<br>
