"Lavena", also known as "The Passionate Lovers" or "Picking up Sticks" is an<br> English jig in 6/8 time and D Minor. There is only one part.<br> It was published by Playford in the first edition of his English Dancing<br> Master (1651) and retained under that title through the 7th edition of 1686.<br> Beginning with the 4th edition (1670), Playford added the alternate title<br> "The Passionate Lovers".<br> It was printed in Barlow's The Complete Country Dance Tunes from Playford's<br> Dancing Master (1985),<br> Karpeles & Schofield's A Selection of 100 English Folk Dance Airs (1951)<br> (appears as "Picking Up Sticks") and<br> Raven's English Country Dance Tunes (1984).<br> It was recorded by The New York Renaissance Band on Country Capers (1984).<br>
