"Lincoln and Liberty Too" was a campaign song supporting Republican Abraham
Lincoln in the 1860 United States presidential election. It was published in
Hutchinson's Republican Songster of 1860. The Hutchinson family traveled through
the country singing the song at Lincoln campaign rallies and even in the White
House. The song became the official campaign song for President Lincoln's
campaign. Rallies supporting Lincoln sang the song.
The tune is the Irish "Rosin the Beau" which was used for a number of other American songs such as "Acres of Clams" and "Down in the Willow Garden". It was printed in Lomax's Folk Songs of North America (1960), Silber's Songs America Voted By (1971) and Hall's Lincoln and Liberty: Music from Abraham Lincoln's Era (2009). |
