"The Louisville Burglar" is an American version of the English classic "repentant criminal" song (also related to "the criminals last goodnight" type of song). I learned it from the New Lost City Ramblers who learned it from an old Okeh record by a group listed as "The Hickory Nuts", probably from North Carolina. Note the similarity of lyrics between this song and the British Botany Bay which is listed in this section.
