"Sally Ann" also known as "Sally Anne", “Beano”, “Darneo”, "Dineo" is an Old-Time breakdown known in West Virginia, Virginia and North Carolina. It is usually played in D and sometimes in C. One version of the tune was recorded for the Library of Congress by Vance Randolph from Ozark Mountain fiddlers in the early 1940's.
It is related to "Sail Away Ladies", known in Kentucky and Tennessee.
Cecil Sharp collected it from Mrs. Dellie Hughes in North Carolina, in 1918.
It was recorded by Al Hopkins and His Buckle Busters, Henry Reed (via the Hollow Rock String Band), Mike Seegar, Pete Seegar and others.
It is printed in Pete Seegar's American Favorite Ballads and Alan Lomax's Folk Songs of North America, both of whom give it in C.
