"Shady Grove" is a Dorian mode tune easy to play in mountain minor tuning (gDGCD) on the banjo. It is wide spread and well known among both traditional singers and folk-revival singers. It has been recorded by Jean Ritchie, the Kingston Trio, Jerry Garcia, Bill Monroe, The Chieftains, Doc Watson and Clarence Ashley among others. Doc Watson's flat pick guitar version is especially good.
