Here's good luck to the nipperkin boys,
Good luck to the barley-mow,
O the nipperkin and the brown bowl,
Here's good luck, good luck to the barley-mow. (You buggers!)
Here's good luck to the gill my boys,
Good luck to the barley-mow,
O the gill, the half-a-gill, quarter gill,
nipperkin and the brown bowl,
Here's good luck, good luck to the barley-mow. (You buggers!)
Here's good luck to the half-pint,
Good luck to the barley-mow,
O the half-pint, gill, the half-a-gill, quarter gill,
nipperkin and the brown bowl,
Here's good luck, good luck to the barley-mow. (You buggers!)
The progression continues through pint, quart, half gallon, etc.,
followed by a reverse recitation (like "The Twelve Days of Christmas")
("the quart, the pint, half a pint, gill, half a gill, quarter gill,
nipperkin and the brown bowl") until the group loses track or falls
into a drunken stupor.
The tag after each verse "You buggers!" is either sung to a rising
cadence (D E F#) leading into the next verse or (after the singing
and drinking has progressed) shouted with increasing volume.
