"The House Carpenter" is the usual American title for this old Scottish ballad. Child (Child #243) lists it as "The Daemon Lover". It is also known as "James Harris" or "James Herries".
It is included in The Joan Baez Songbook and in Folk Songs of Peggy Seeger: the first in D minor and the second in D major but with the sharps cancelled with naturals. There are many recordings of it by a large number of people including Pete Seeger and Joan Baez.
