"Sally My Dear" is an example of somewhat typical English double-entendre songs. This one is similar to Hares on the Mountain. You can see similarities to "The Two Magicians" and "Roll Your Leg Over". I learned this from Pete Seeger's Bells of Rhymney book. It is another song collected from Mrs. May Kennedy McCord in the Ozarks and is also in Cecil Sharp's One Hundred English Folksongs. The version of the melody presented here is a combination of the Sharp and Seeger versions.
