"A & E Rag", also known as "Buck River" is an American reel in cut time
and A Major ('A' part) & E Major ('B' part). The parts are played AA'AA'BB'BB'.
According to Drew Beisswenger (2008), “Buck Fever” was source Lonnie Robertson’s alternate title for the tune. Beisswenger notes a good deal of musical similarity with the Kentucky tune "Old Flannagin/Old Flannigan", both having a second strain close to "Old Mother Flanagan", with a first strain that is shared with "Saratoga Hornpipe" and a number of other related melodies. It was printed in Beisswenger & McCann's Ozarks Fiddle Music (2000) and Sanella's Balance and Swing (1990). It was recorded by Lonnie Robertson on a privately issued extended play LP (1965) and on Lonnie’s Breakdown (1965). |
